A Natura 2000 site located immediately to the west of Mount Enna is characterized by powerful rocky banks made up of Messinian evaporites, particularly gypsum and gypsarenites. This geological peculiarity creates extensive arid landscapes with gypsophilic flora and epigean karst phenomena. On the long ridge, there are the remains of an ancient Christian hermitage, as well as sulfur mines and gypsum and alabaster quarries.
