Montagna di Marzo
POI / Archaeological sites
The archaeological area, which is part of the Morgantina Archaeological Park and the Villa del Casale, preserves the remains of a large Hellenized Sicilian settlement that likely continued until late antiquity. Many people identify the town with the ancient Herbessos. Archaeological research on the plateau at the top has revealed the remains of a theatrical structure, a large city gate, part of the walls, and an apse belonging to a late ancient ecclesiastical structure.
