Restorer for a day: Sicilian chest

One of the workshop's main goals is passing on the skills needed for a proper understanding of every stage of restoration. Angelo had the opportunity to restore chests belonging to noble families, and from this he had the idea of reproducing them, at 1/4 scale, for all nine Sicilian provinces. The aim of the project is to make known the cultural traditions spanning from the 1600s to the 1800s. During this workshop, you will have the chance to build your own chest, fitting the small pieces of wood together, then painting and decorating it exactly as you like!

La Bottega del Restauro was founded in 1990 by Angelo Scalzo near the old quarter of Enna. The studio is the result of a professional experience developed through practice in various workshops, which has helped to enrich and improve the owner's learning skills. This craft workshop uses eco-friendly and environmentally compatible products. The experience is part of a cultural journey based on techniques handed down over centuries. All restorations are carried out in accordance with the principles of conservation, with the aim of making objects legible again and restoring them to use.
