The city of silence: Realmese Necropolis

The non-profit cultural association Hisn al-Giran was founded in Calascibetta in July 2011, out of a shared desire to promote and enhance the Calascibetta area through excursions and cultural events. Countless small oven-shaped tombs stand among the white, steep limestone rocks of Cozzo San Giuseppe in the Necropolis of Realmese, an important archaeological site, in a territory inhabited from prehistory to the Byzantine era. It is a legendary place, thanks to the presence of a cavern said to have contained rich treasures, rising among oaks and olive trees in a broad valley.
