Amid the cereal-growing countryside of what was the Morgantina territory, a long rocky ridge rises to cut across the course of a stream almost like a dam. This is Pietratagliata, or Castel di Gresti. On the ridge, formed of Numidian quartz-arenites and marked by an extensive sequence of trace fossils and sole marks, stand the remains of a fortified medieval settlement with a sturdy, still almost intact tower, various parts of a palatial complex and rooms carved into the heart of the rock. Famous for its dramatic setting, Gresti has also served as a location for films and music videos.
