One of Italy's best-known nature reserves and a Biotope of Italy, an endorheic lake and important station for wild birdlife, with a Visitor Center at the entrance.
One of the best-known nature reserves in Italy, the lake is also a designated Biotope of Italy. Easily visited via the reed-bank shore path, the basin is natural and endorheic, and is characterised by being fed exclusively by the waters of a very small portion of territory nestled between the two great river basins of the Simeto and the Imera. A very important station for wild birdlife, it is also a place of great interest for sports in a natural setting. At the entrance, the Geopark, in partnership with Legambiente, runs the Visitor Center.

It is reached from Via Pergusina / Viale dei Miti. Accessible by bicycle, by public transport, by car/motorbike, and by taxi/shuttle. Address: Pergusa, Via Mercurio, Enna.
Access & visits
Access to the shore is possible except during competitive motorsport events. The area surrounding the lake is always accessible. Suitable for families with children and people with disabilities (a guide is required). Required equipment: comfortable clothing suited to the season, backpack, trekking shoes, 1.5 l water bottle.
