An ancient settlement from the Bronze Age to its destruction in 1394, with city walls, the acropolis of Serra Casazze, a Byzantine church, castle ruins and fossil-bearing sands.
Monte Rossomanno is the site of an ancient settlement whose origins go back to the Bronze Age and continue until the moment of its destruction in 1394 during the War of the Factions. The site enjoys a panoramic position and displays the remains of the circuit walls, the ancient classical acropolis of Serra Casazze, a Byzantine church, the remains of the castle and a hermitage that was the only point of permanent human presence. The natural setting is marked by the emergence of Plio-Pleistocene sands bearing fossils and by vegetation that still retains a fine woodland cover.
Getting there
It is easily reached from the RT that branches off eastwards from the Furma junction, between the SP 4 and the SS 117 bis. By bicycle and by car/motorbike. Address: SS 117 bis, Enna.
Access & visits
Open every day of the year. Suitable for families with children (a guide is required). Required equipment: comfortable clothing suited to the season, backpack, trekking shoes, 1.5 l water bottle.
