A Regional Mining Park and open-air museum of Sicilian sulphur-mining heritage, with the magnificent Palazzo Pennisi and the pearly-white waters of the Rio Floristella.
A Regional Mining Park, it extends over a vast area that during the 19th and 20th centuries was the scene of intense sulphur-mining activity. Here, first the Pennisi family, the last holders of the barony of the same name, and then the Region through its dedicated bodies, managed various mining structures whose remains today form a genuine open-air museum of Sicilian mining civilisation. Its jewel is the magnificent Palazzo Pennisi. Most distinctive is the Rio Floristella, with its highly mineralised waters of a pearly white colour.
Getting there
It is reached from the SP 4 at the junction of the same name. Accessible by bicycle and by car/motorbike. Address: SP 4, C.da Floristella, Enna.
Access & visits
Open every day of the year. Suitable for families with children (a guide is required). Required equipment: comfortable clothing suited to the season, backpack, trekking shoes, 1.5 l water bottle.
