A geosite in the Rossomanno nature reserve with a ring of sandstone monoliths in imaginative shapes, linked to folk legends and a key example of Pliocene quartz-arenites.
A geosite located within the Rossomanno Nature Reserve, easily reached from the reserve's entrance in the Ronza locality, it features a circle of sandstone monoliths arranged almost to form a dolmenic ring and displaying extremely imaginative shapes. Linked to various traditional legends, geologically it represents the most important example of quartzarenites within the Pliocene sands.
Getting there
It is reached from the Ronza park on the SS 117 bis. It can be reached by bicycle and by car/motorbike. Address: SS 117 bis, Contrada Ronza, Enna.
Access & visits
Open every day of the year. Suitable for families with children (a guide is required). Required equipment: comfortable clothing suited to the season, backpack, trekking shoes, 1.5 l water bottle. Recommended equipment: rain poncho, binoculars, camera, trekking poles.
