In the territory of Calascibetta, several pre- and protohistoric necropolises come into view: hundreds of tombs carved into the limestone rock, in some cases isolated, in others gathered into groups that can be very large.
In the territory of Calascibetta, several pre- and protohistoric necropolises come into view: hundreds of tombs carved into the limestone rock, in some cases isolated, in others gathered into groups that can be very large. The most important is Realmese, in the Contrada San Giuseppe, datable to the Bronze Age and easy to visit. Not far from it is the Malpasso area, where a number of hypogeal (underground) tombs of the Copper Age open up, belonging to a civilisation that was in fact named after Malpasso itself.
Getting there
Contrada Realmese, SP 80, Calascibetta. Easily reached by following the signs from the centre of Calascibetta. Accessible by bicycle and by car/motorcycle.
