The ancient road described by Cicero allowed grain supplies to be transported from Henna to Halaesa on the Tyrrhenian coast. In the stretch between Calascibetta, Monte Altesina and the hamlet of Cacchiamo, the bundle of roads that made up this annonaria (grain road) still forms the heart of a rural network of great scenic impact. In its final part, already within sight of Cacchiamo, the annonaria road passes right beside the interesting coral geosite, then arrives before the Bongiorno Villa-Farmstead, with its chapel and large watering trough, and further on the Geopark Center.
Getting there
SP 80, Calascibetta. Reached by following the SP 80, whose surface is affected by several instances of subsidence, and following one of the axes of the annonaria. Accessible by bicycle, by car/motorcycle and by taxi/shuttle.
